General information about the use of the ForumPrintable

The Forum/s provided on the District IV Website are intended to be a private posting area for Members to present questions, information, issues, and thoughts for other Members of the District IV Site to respond to. Remember, anything that you post is deemed open to the Membership and will be visible to all other Forum visitors.

Overview

Think of the Forum as a public "Bulletin Board", with all of a Bulletin Board"s advantages (as well as it"s disadvantages). As an example, it is possible for a Member to pose a hypothetical situation requesting feedback on interpretation of the District IV Operating Procedures (that"d be an advantage). It is also possible for an individual to post incorrect information (e.g. "a lie") that may be interpreted inappropriately by another Member to the site (that"s a clear disadvantage).

The key is for you (the Site visitor) to understand that the Forum can be a source of good information, but also has the potential to be a source of questionable information. It all depends upon the source of the information you are looking at (the District does NOT guarantee the information you find in the Forum is correct).

Terminology

To understand the Forum, you"ll need to understand a couple of terms (in addition to those mentioned in [a1]Information: Terminology and throughout the Site) and what they mean in the context of the Forum, as follows:

Collapse
indicates the action you"d take by clicking on the Collapse Symbol just to the left of the Forum Topic (see example at the right). This permits you to remove the expanded sub-topics posted to the specific Forum Topic you are interested in.
Expand
indicates the action you"d take by clicking on the Expand Symbol just to the left of the Forum Topic (see example at the right). This permits you to expand the specific Forum Topic you are interested in to see the responses that have been Posted. If there are no responses posted to the Topic, the Expand Symbol is replaced by the Collapse Symbol.

You can also move your mouse over the top of the symbol and pause for a short popup describing what the symbol is for (on suitable equipped Browsers).

Expires
establishes the time interval a Message will exist on the Forum before it is automatically deleted. By definition, all Messages within the Forum have an automatic expiration date.
